Your Guide to Full Mouth Dental Implants During the Holiday Season

Are you planning to gift yourself with a total teeth replacement for the holidays? For people who have struggled for years with cracked, loose teeth and painful gums, it’s hard to imagine a better gift than a brand-new smile.

But what about those holiday meals and get-togethers with friends and family? Are you worried that you’ll have to miss out on the festivities in order to get full mouth dental implants sooner rather than later?

Fortunately, you can get whole mouth dental implants and still celebrate the holidays without making too many sacrifices, although you’ll need to adjust your diet and possibly tweak your travel habits if you leave home.

One thing you won’t have to give up when you get your implants at New Teeth Now is your smile. With us, you’ll receive new, natural-looking teeth on the same day as your implant procedure. This means you can laugh and smile without feeling self-conscious about your teeth. And you won’t even think about running for cover when someone snaps a few holiday photos!

Read on for some benefits of choosing the winter holidays to get your full-mouth dental implant procedure.

Warm weather means a comfortable recovery

Winter in Florida offers more than just sunshine—it provides the perfect climate for recovery. While northern states face freezing temperatures and snowstorms, Florida stays mild and comfortable. Healing from dental surgery is easier when you’re not battling cold weather, dry air, seasonal illnesses, or travel disruptions.

Easier to take time off during the holidays

For many people, the period between Thanksgiving Day and New Year’s Day is a slow time at work, which makes it a great time to take a vacation and get dental implants without worrying that job duties are piling up. Schools typically schedule holiday breaks, so parents and grandparents with young kids at home won’t have to fret that school activities will be missed while the adult guardians are recovering from getting implants. Whether you’re taking advantage of holiday breaks, end-of-year PTO, or simply want to start the new year with a brand-new smile, the holiday season offers the flexibility to plan your treatment and recovery.

Combine dental care with a vacation

Florida is an ideal location for first-time visitors and snowbirds already spending winter in Florida alike! New Teeth Now is located in Lakeland, FL, near Tampa and Orlando, making it easy to enjoy beaches, resorts, and attractions while you recover. Many patients plan a short vacation around their procedure, turning dental care into a rejuvenating experience.

Start the new year with a new smile

With a little planning, getting a full set of fabulous new teeth supported by dental implants can be the best way to celebrate the holidays. Even better is the chance to kick off the new year with a gorgeous new smile, renewed confidence, and improved oral health. The timing is perfect to treat yourself to a fresh start.

What to expect after your dental implant procedure

No matter what time of year you decide to replace your teeth with dental implants, you’ll want to entrust your health and your smile only to a highly qualified oral surgeon with many years of experience placing full mouth dental implants.  At New Teeth Now, our board-certified oral surgeons have specialized in full mouth implants for many years, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find another clinic with more experienced dental implant providers.

Thanks to our use of general anesthesia, New Teeth Now patients experience no pain during their dental implant procedure, even if it includes teeth extractions. However, there may be some facial swelling for a day or two afterward as your body works to heal. Your dental implant team will instruct you on how to use ice to minimize the swelling, and you’ll receive a prescription for pain medication, although many of our patients tell us they never needed it.

Using the latest high-tech equipment, our oral surgeons custom design their treatment plans to meet each patient’s unique needs. They also collaborate with our in-house restorative dentists and on-site dental lab technicians to make sure that not only are the dental implants perfectly placed but the new, fabricated teeth look and feel natural to their patients.

This is important because in recent years, general dentists with training only in cookie-cutter techniques have begun offering full mouth dental implants, also known as All-on-4® implants. At New Teeth Now, we believe our customized and full-service approach is the best way to ensure optimal and long-lasting results for our patients.

We also have many years of experience treating patients with complex needs, including severe bone loss. If you’re looking for a dental implant provider to replace your teeth with no need for advance bone grafting, New Teeth Now has the team you can count on for expertise in placing zygomatic implants and other solutions.

Eating for the holidays with your new implants

You’ll need to give your mouth time to heal after your dental implant procedure, so you’ll have to be careful to avoid eating hard-to-chew foods during the first few weeks of your recovery. Every patient is unique, so the healing time can vary, but you should be prepared to stick to soft, mushy foods – only foods that you can cut with the side of a plastic fork.

Fortunately, many of the traditional holiday meal staples are either soft enough or can be modified so you can enjoy the flavors of the season, even if you’re recovering from a full arch or full mouth implant procedure.

Here are a few examples:

holiday soft food ideas

  • Boiled turkey or ham
  • Mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Risotto
  • Well-cooked, soft vegetables
  • Butternut squash purée
  • Canned cranberry sauce
  • Peas
  • Bread pudding
  • Pumpkin custard
  • Eggnog ice cream

The foods listed above are generally safe for dental implant patients to eat, but watch out for recipe variations that include nuts or other hard foods. There are a ton of healthy options beyond the holiday classics as well. for instance, some good breakfast choices include:

  • Smoothies
  • Protein shakes
  • Yogurt
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Cooked cereal

Traveling with a healing mouth

On the day you get full mouth dental implants, you’ll leave the clinic with specific instructions on how to care for them after your procedure. You’ll need to use a soft-bristle toothbrush to gently clean your teeth, and you’ll be advised to use a curved-tip irrigation syringe to wash away food that may lodge between your bridge and your gums as they heal and recede.

If your holiday plans include travel during the five or six weeks immediately following your dental implant procedure, make sure you tell your dental implant provider so you can receive specific instructions regarding any special preparations you should make. At the least, you’ll want to be sure to pack your dental cleaning supplies, because hard brushes and traditional dental floss will not be safe to use for your post-implant hygiene routine.

After about five or six weeks, your gums should be healed enough that you can use a water flosser. You may wish to purchase a battery-operated model that’s easy to pack and specifically designed for convenience during travel.

Generally, it’s a good idea to stay put near the clinic during the first two weeks after your procedure, so you can report for checkups to ensure your recovery is going smoothly. Although holiday time can be busy, it’s important to make time for your post-procedure checkups so that your dental implant team can watch out for any potential complications and answer any questions you have.

Every patient is unique, and the amount of time it takes to fully recover from a dental implant procedure can vary. But most people have healed by the six-month mark and can expect to get their final teeth made of beautiful, durable zirconia. During their healing time, they can expect to visit the clinic a few times for checkups and adjustments as needed. New Teeth Now patients also get a set of temporary zirconia teeth at some point after their swelling has receded.
